Not every Saturday night, but more often than not, the unassuming priest would walk through the cafeteria with the message.  “When I see those boys. I see Jesus in their eyes.”

Maybe Jesus, in this case, is LOVE and not a religious statement but rather a life statement.

  • What if he only sees LOVE in their eyes?
  • What if WE could only see love in each other’s eyes?
  • What if we could see LOVE without conditions? The life statement is more symbolic because of the environment.  These are not boys, that as parents are so proud of as displayed by bumper stickers on the back of cars, who are honor roll students.   Nor are they the “good” boys that are applauded, and most importantly, loved.

No, to the contrary, these are the “bad” boys.  These are the boys who are locked up, in a cage, and despite all of our rage they will still be the rat in the cage.  For the cage does not necessarily leave them, when they get out, but rather it may well stay with them forever.

  • Furthermore, are we not all in so many ways locked in our own cages?
  •  Are not the emotions locked inside of us, unable to express the feelings, directly leading to dis-ease?
  • Those emotional knots that culminate within, like the jail, protecting them from us – and us from them, is it not what is cause for so much social displacement of fear?
How often is it declared that the “truth must be spoken” although whose truth may that be?   Is truth not THE but rather A?  And, even if for arguments sake it is THE truth, is it that more important than kindness, love even?Or, are we incapable of seeing love in our own eyes?  Are we incapable of seeing love in the eyes of “them”, or “they” who are incrementally separate from the (a) truth, and “we” who are always right?   And, “they” who is not only wrong but equally bad?

  • What if we can stop all the bullshit, and it’s all bullshit, and simply love ourselves right now as we are in this moment?
  • What if we can stop all the bullshit, and it’s all bullshit, and simply love them for who they are now and even beyond their current state?
If he can see Jesus in the eyes of every boy who sits in jail, why cannot we?The retort is that, “they won’t learn their lesson?”   They must be punished for their misdeeds, right?  They must pay for their transgressions?

Instead of putting someone else in jail for being “lazy”, or being “fat”, or “stupid”, or simply not good enough, according to our standards, how about simply loving them.

The truth is:  you are overweight.  The truth is:  you are not living up to your potential.  The truth is: you are  not doing enough.  The truth is:  you will never be enough.

Or, that is A truth by our own perception based upon time and space and most often a reflection of our own current state.

If he can see Jesus in the eyes of every boy who sits in jail, why cannot we?Why cannot we see how often we put ourselves and others in a cage with the label of being bad, because we have had emotional trauma in the past that keeps us locked up and unable to be fully free?

And, yes, there are crimes against humanity but is not the most criminal of all the systematic lack of humanity itself?

When we reclaim our own humanity,
when we are grateful for everything and everyone
void of conditions and merely love,
it can not only change the world

but save the world.

I Am Free

Life is Life

We all have one

But, how many days

Are spent actually living?

How many are wasted?

And, never really fully tasted?

The moments that pass by

Without any conscious

How many opportunities

Pass us by each and every day?

How many times do we hesitate

Because, of fear

Or out of guilt

Or getting caught up

In thinking

Judging the moment

Instead of being in flow

Letting our minds go

Allowing ourselves to be free

To explore

Today, I have really galvanized what I want out of life and who I want to be. Ironically, the two coincide:  Peace, Love and Joy.

These are not just emotions but a state of being.   They are also available every moment of every day.  I need not wait for someone, some thing, or some place for me to be in that state.
In order to get to that state, my focus is on gratitude.   Unconditional gratitude and appreciation for everything and everyone.    Being consciously aware of the moment, and to get to a place where I can find:
Peace:  For it is with peace, that I allow self-acceptance to flow as well accepting of others as they are wherever they are.
Joy:     Through joy, I find fun and happiness that culminates in celebration, which can be for no reason whatsoever.

Love:   With the intention of love, it is my focus, and through such I find freedom.

Through these, I experience ultimate freedom because no longer does anyone (family, friends, coworkers, colleagues, strangers, etc.) or anything (money, location, job – or lack thereof,  etc.) can control me, because I am free.
Free to be,

I choose when and where, and with who, I spend my time with those that exemplify peace, love and joy in their own life in their own way.
I no longer need to wait to have fun.  I no longer need to wait to be happy.  I no longer need to wait for anything to be at peace, to be in joy, or be in a state of love – for self or others.
The world may be chaotic, but it always has and most likely always will.   We can wait forever for it to change, but waiting is not tasting, and life is meant to be spent living.

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms…”

― Henry David Thoreau

Human, We Are, Even If We Forget Sometimes

Sometimes, we forget or neglect
the fact that we are
and whether it be
an act of kindness,
a time of sadness,
a touch of love,
a moment of joy,
or a moment of anger,
it is human to feel
it is human to touch
it is human to weep
it is human to wonder
it is human to doubt
it is human to remember
it is human to seek
it is human to enjoy

I am

How connected are we, really?

We reside in a world that is more connected than ever, and yet in some ways, we can be equally disconnected.  That disconnect extends, more often than not, from ourselves.

If I may share what has been incredibly beneficial for myself (both professionally and personally) is two of my practices. Through sharing my hope is it may beneficial to you, or someone you know.

They are:

1) Living in complete Joy –  In order to achieve complete joy, my first step is to become mindful of the moment and to be able to feel the emotion of enjoying whatever it is I am doing not dependent upon circumstance or situation.  Like any other exercise, it takes commitment to achieve results, and part of this includes daily meditation. A very simple one is breathing in, smiling (visualizing my entire body smiling) and then breathing out releasing (and letting go of) whatever is no longer serving me.  Through meditation, I am able to control my thoughts rather than having my thoughts control me.  The focus though is not only on my thoughts but also my emotions, and feelings, while taking full responsibility for my actions and behaviors.  The more I allow myself to acknowledge that joy is possible at any place, and any time, the more I allow myself to embrace joy right now, which transcends all that I do and all that I am.

2) Unconditional Appreciation –  Coupled with living in complete joy is my practice of unconditional appreciation. Not only am I grateful, but I am consciously appreciating everyone and everything that is present in this moment. My focus is on what I have rather than what I do not in conjunction with focusing on the solution(s) rather than the problem. Every single person who comes into my life is for my own higher good. Every thing that I encounter is an opportunity to learn and to grow, and the more I am able to appreciate all I have right now, the more I am able to enjoy all that life has to offer.

How can I support and/or be of service to you?

I AM … G R A T E F U L …

  1. I am grateful to be me.
    • I’ve had the good fortune to like, even love, the person that I am and enjoy my individuality, creativity, my mind, and my thought process.
  2. I am grateful for my castle.
    • I have the most beautiful house, and I love every inch of it now and am so excited for beautification projects.
  3. I am grateful for Anthony and Ryan
    • Amazing how they have grown into young men. Anthony is strong and sensitive at the same time. He is as honest as honest can be, and isn’t afraid to share what’s on his mind. Ryan is an artist’s soul that even when not playing music or writing still has that wonderful side.
  4. I am grateful for Mr. Scheister.
    • All anyone needs is Love and a dog. Scheister is the best dog ever.  He doesn’t care when gets up, what time he is fed, he is just so completely chill.   And, he has the chillest personality and is always in a good mood.
  5. I am grateful for Arionna, Alora and Toni
    • Awesome, together and individually doing great things in the world for themselves and shining stars each and every one.
  6. I am grateful for the breath of life.
    • Every breath is involuntary, most goes unnoticed, but without breath I would have no life. I am equally grateful for life itself, and to be able to live in this moment in time.
  7. I am grateful for my parents.
    • For my parents are what gave me life, and without them I am nothing.
  8. I am grateful for Marie and Chance
    • Family is forever, and I am fortunate to have an insanely supportive one, especially with the insanity that is me and my whacky ways.
  9. I am grateful for humor.
    • “If you can make me laugh. I don’t care how much work you do.” That was my indoctrination into my first job at college, and it is something I have followed ever since.  I love to laugh, and love those who make me laugh!
  10. I am grateful for the sky.
    • On days like today when I look upwards and see nothing but constant and consistent blue with shades of contrast on the horizon makes me wonder if it could ever get any better than this.
  11. I am grateful for the night.
    • There is something peaceful about the night, the stars, and the peace that comes from absence of light.
  12. I am grateful for my own thoughts.
    • In the silence and sanctity of my own, I find respite from the world around as I make my own.
  13. I am grateful for learning.
    • There is something stupendous about the wonder of learning of something new.
  14. I am grateful for words.
    • Because, words matter.

    • It is my way I seek, to be better and better in every way, every single day.
  16. I am grateful for art and culture.
    • We breathe to live but we live to love, and to love life.
  17. I am grateful for music.
    • “My religion is Billy Idol.” – from a dream I had years ago.
  18. I am grateful for movies & television.
    • To be able to create characters, stories, and dialogue that captives as well as cultivates emotional response is such a surreal experience that transcends time and space.
  19. I am grateful for my misery.
    • Because, it is my own. I wouldn’t want anyone else’s journey.
  20. I am grateful for humans and human interest.
    • Human interest stories are my favorite, and we all have a story. I like to hear them, see them, investigate, and know more about people.
  21. I am grateful for the unknown.
    • Not having to have the answers, to be able to let go and be ok with not knowing, and allowing myself to explore the depths of my being and the wonders of all that life has in its most wonderful giving.
  22. I am grateful for my teachers.
    • I love school I actually love being in class. Learning is such an aphrodisiac and I had some amazing teachers who propelled me to delve further into my curiosity and to engage in the process of excavating into new layers of gaining knowledge.
  23. I am grateful for being alone.
    • Being alone does not necessarily equate to loneliness and while I have tasted this too, I enjoy my time to myself, which has been a majority of my life.
  24. I am grateful for diversity.
    • In thought, in people, in eccentricities. I love to see, taste and experience different cultures, foods, ideas, and philosophies.
  25. I am grateful for love.
    • As critical as breath is for living.
  26. I am grateful for touch.

  30. I am grateful for the material world.
    • I love that we are able to have nice things, to enjoy something more than the basic necessities.

    • Every cent allows me more freedom to do what I want, when I want, with whomever I want, and that is such a beautiful thing.
  35. I am grateful for my neighborhood and neighbors.
    • It is quaint, quiet and peaceful community. That is pretty sweet.

    • My favorite people growing up with Granddad being so open and trusting and Grandma being so alive.
  42. I am grateful for growing up Wright.
